December 1 – National Day of Romania

Romanians marks today 94 years since the creation of ‘Greater Romania’

On December 1, Romanians celebrate the unification of Transylvania into ‘Greater Romania’ in 1918. In the wake of the break-up of the Austro-Hungarian Empire after WW I, on December 1, 1918, citizens of Transylvania, Banat County, Crisana County and Maramures County met in the city of Alba-Iulia and voted to join Romania. This was ratified in the Romanian Chamber of Deputies and Senate 29 days later. This act was internationally formalized by the signing of the Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920, between Romania and Hungary. This brought the three provinces of Wallachia, Moldavia, and Transylvania into the united kingdom of Romania.

Romania is celebrating ninety four years of unity – the Great Union Day (December 1), which is also the country’s National Day. Various cultural events are organized all over the country to mark the special day, as well as military parades, thematic concerts and parties.

Într-una din seri, după întâlnirile cu studenţi din Braşov şi invitaţi din partea Forumului German din Codlea, am petrecut câteva ore frumoase în barul "Mado" de pe strada Republicii.

In one of the evenings, after the meetings at the Transylvania University with students from Braşov and guests from the German Forum in Codlea, we spent a nice time in a bar called "Mado" on the main shopping street "Republicii". Nice!

American students at shopping in Brintex, Braşov-Romania

O idee inedită : fiecare student american din grupul care a vizitat Codlea şi Braşovul într-un schimb de experienţă la Universitatea Transilvania săptămâna trecută a trebuit să facă faţă unei provocări, încercând să cumpere unul sau mai multe produse sub 10 lei din "bazarul" braşovean Brintex. Fără ajutor, fără a şti româneşte şi fiind pentru prima oară în Romania. O experienţă interesantă!

A novel idea: Each american student that visited Codlea and Braşov last week, had to deal with a not very easy challenge, trying to buy products for about 10 lei (3 USD) in the Brintex "bazaar" in Braşov.  With no other help, without knowing the romanian language and being for the first time in Romania . An interesting experience!

Grup de studenţi americani la Universitatea Transilvania

Toată săptămână aceasta, de luni până joi , începând cu ora 19 ne-am întâlnit pe Colina Universităţii Transilvania cu un grup de studenţi americani. Cum sunt legaţi aceştia de Codlea, vă voi explica în curând.
